Charity Donation on Cue for Retirement Village

12th March 2009

Through the generosity of a local social society, residents of Lark Hill Retirement Village will have an added attraction to the busy round of activities planned when the Village opens later this year. For the Nottingham City Transport Social Society, which has 350 members, is donating two full size snooker tables to the Village. Says Society Trustee Phil Peet: "Because of redevelopment at one of our garages we hadn't the space for them and rather than selling we decided to donate them to the community. "We know they'll be looked after and kept busy at Lark Hill and we are extremely pleased that older people in Nottingham will benefit."

Two potential residents of the Village, Ted Kotlarz (83) from Wollaton and Bill Hallam (84) from Strelley attended the presentation and met Phil and the Chairman of the Society, Chris Shelton. Ted told them he started playing snooker at 80 after watching a game on TV. "One go and I was hooked. I asked about a snooker table at the Village and now we've been given one; thank you Nottingham City Transport Social Society."

Bill is just as keen. "I started playing when I was in the forces at the outbreak of the second world war and still enjoy it just as much today. It's great we'll have two at Lark Hill and we are grateful for the donation."
