First Nottingham Villagers Announced

29th July 2008

Selected from over 3,500 enquirers, a group of 40 Nottingham residents have just been informed that they have been allocated the first brand-new homes at Lark Hill Village. Invited to meet with staff and friends at the Village show properties, the chosen residents celebrated a key stage in the development of the emerging community which will offer Nottingham's older people a radical, 21st century alternative to traditional residential care. The 327-home Village opens in late spring, 2009.

Eddie & HazelHearing the news Hazel Garner from Clifton commented: "I'm very excited. I was unsure at first but when I saw another ExtraCare Village in Milton Keynes it really changed my mind. The people were so friendly. I wasn't institutionalised at all - it was more like a hotel."

Husband Eddie, added: "I'm not so mobile now. I have trouble climbing stairs and this village is much more accessible - it's somewhere where I can feel safe."

Another City resident Christine Radford also heard the good news. She said she would like to volunteer in the Village and maybe join an indoor bowls group. She added:

"I'm absolutely thrilled. I want to live with like-minded people and share my life with new friends. Isolation would become an issue for me if I stayed at my current home.

"I have Parkinsons - here at the Village I can stay put and have help if need it and I won't have to move into residential care later on."

110 properties have now been allocated and applications are open for Nottingham residents who are over the age of 60 (55 in exceptional circumstances), living in the administrative boundary of Nottingham City Council or have a local connection with the City. To apply, phone 01159 406349.
