Nottingham Village Applications Off To A Strong Start
23rd June 2008
Following a first week of applications 35 potential residents have already placed their deposits to move into Nottingham's Lark Hill Retirement Village, the £49m retirement scheme set up by midlands charity The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Primary Care Trust.
Opening in late spring 2009 the scheme will provide 327 affordable homes for 450 local older residents, 18 state-of-the-art health and leisure facilities and up to 24 hour support for those who require care.
ExtraCare Sales Manager, Phill Hulme, says that his team has been overwhelmed by the response from residents across the City wishing to move into the Village.
He comments: "Lark Hill is proving particularly attractive to older people who are concerned about their future safety and support but want an active and social alternative to more traditional residential or nursing homes.
"They like the fact that they won't have to sell their Lark Hill property to pay for future care which can be delivered within the Village by a dedicated staff team. That's important, it offers peace of mind."
Part-purchase properties are available from £65,000 and to ensure costs are affordable for potential villagers (whether they buy or rent a property there), the Charity has employed a number of benefits' specialists who will advise applicants and check that they are currently claiming their full housing and care entitlements.
Phill comments: "Already, amongst the first forty Village applications we have discovered over £35,000 in under-claimed payments - this is a free service for people, whether they subsequently move into the Village or not."

The 24-acre village construction site, on the southern edge of Clifton, currently employs 380 staff. When complete the building will comprise an impressive list of statistics - some two million bricks and blocks, 530,000 roof tiles, 57,000 tonnes of stone and 17km of skirting board.
In addition to a restaurant, bar, gym and other leisure facilities, which will be open to villagers' families and the wider older community at an affordable cost, Lark Hill will incorporate a pond and waterfall feature as part of an extensive area of accessible, landscaped gardens.
