Up to 100 Nottingham Jobs For ‘Can-do’ Staff
23rd March 2009
Future residents of Lark Hill Village are joining the search for up to 100 Nottingham staff to support the 450 older people moving to the City’s flagship retirement scheme when it opens this summer.
In a bold move to find the perfect people for the job, Village charity, The ExtraCare Charitable Trust is asking future residents to chat with potential recruits before they sign up.
Explains Village Manager, Ian Finnie: “Engaging residents in the heart of our recruitment process will lead to a more dedicated staff team. They will be seeking staff with a ‘can-do’ attitude who are friendly, approachable and easy to talk to.”
An early recruit is Chrissie Thornton, a Nottingham-trained nurse who previously worked at the City Hospital. Joining ExtraCare because she wanted to help local older people in the community, she has already supported future Lark Hill residents on a recent activity trip. Her most rewarding moment was helping an elderly gentlemen with Multiple Sclerosis, who subsequently enjoyed his first swim in five years.
“Our residents are terrific and full of energy,” says Chrissie. “It’s completely different to a nursing home. The job is a challenge but if you like variety and love older people, it’s a winner. Everyday they remind me that life is never too short to reach out and achieve your dreams.”
Evelyn Billson from Clifton will join Chrissie when she moves into the Village with partner Stan Vaile. A keen dancer who regularly attends village ballroom classes, she believes staff confidence and enthusiasm will play an important role in Lark Hill life. She comments:
“Chrissie is a great recruit, lovely, full of sunshine and so easy to be with. She’s typical of the sort of people we need here”
Up to one third of the community living at Lark Hill Village will need personal or nursing care. Successful applicants will need previous experience in caring, or be able to demonstrate an empathy for looking after older people and be willing to learn. Other roles in catering, cleaning, finance, fitness, housing and maintenance are available too.
